I've been looking around for a larger bike for some long hauls, mainly Florida and the Carolina's. I looked at the new Harley's, Hondas, Star,Kaw and suzuki..I didn't want to abandon Harley but Damn they sure cost a lot of cash for what little you get.All the rice burners were a light year ahead of the "king" in technology and style.I love the look of the Harley deluxe just too sweet looking.By the time I add bags and a windshield and pipes I'm well over 20K.A dressed out Kaw.1600 nomad was under 14K, and a lot more for your buck just have to deal with the "plastic chrome"I could buy 2 and three quarters Honda VTX 1300's for the same money..
I pondered and weighted the pros and cons of each if all I wanted was basic transportation then one of the rice burners were the choice, very reliable low cost,disposable in what they are worth in 5 years.The Harley will in most cases prob be worth more than I paid in 5 years if you account for inflation factors. I'm just going on what I see in my area..Harley is "KING" for all it's outdated technology and will hold it's value just the same..Hey I don't make the rules That's what I see.
I now ride a 1991 sportster,it started life as a 883 hugger,it's now 1200 and set up to resemble a softail standard. I love the bike and it has less than 500 miles on it's upgrade,sports LED lights showing off the engine at night, a real sweet "BAR" hopper.
So today I started filling out the credit application for a new Bike..just before I clicked enter I paused and this thought came to mind,What's wrong with just keeping what I got, up grade it a little more..Hell it's never let me down..I can't get the ole lady to ride anyway so it's just me and my gear..Fuck the new bike payments for now I'm gonna run the wheels off my sporty..It's paid for and has always started and been fun as hell to ride..I've made that bike part of me why start over.
I tried a Victory for less than a year and a vulcan for less than that both are gone, so glad I hung on to the Harley..IT'S ME..How about some comments..Tom

Well spotted a sweet little Softtail Deluxe 2006 black and pretty as hell..Went to look at it ..Folks I now have bike payments..Am I bad or what..but ya know what? I'm still gonna keep that ole Sporty..Fuck it I was told I only live once..Was a great price and one like it with 1200 miles won't last long..I'll post some pics when I get a chance..Later all
